On the metabolism of an amino acid fermenting Clostridium.

چکیده

Two anaerobic microorgaisms were isolated by the enrichment culture technique from a sodium formate-mineral salts medium inoculated with black mud from the San Francisco Bay. One of these, a motile coccus designated Methanococcus vannielii, carries out a methane fermentation of formate (Stadtman and Barker, 1951). The second organism that was almost equally numerous in the enrichment cultures is a clostridium that utilizes the Stickland reaction, a coupled oxido-reduction reaction between amino acid pairs. The addition of formate causes marked stimulation of growth of the clostridium under certain conditions. This observation suggested that the organism might be suitable biological material for studies on formate intermediary metabolism. Moreover, tracer experiments which are described in another communication showed that considerable amounts of formate carbon appear in alanine and the branched chain amino acids, valine, leucine, or isoleucine.

An rRNA approach for assessing the role of obligate amino acid-fermenting bacteria in ruminal amino acid deamination.

Ruminal amino acid degradation is a nutritionally wasteful process that produces excess ruminal ammonia. Monensin inhibited the growth of monensin-sensitive, obligate amino acid-fermenting bacteria and decreased the ruminal ammonia concentrations of cattle. 16S rRNA probes indicated that monensin inhibited the growth of Peptostreptococcus anaerobius and Clostridium sticklandii in the rumen. Clo...

Synthesis of adenine-B12 coenzyme by Clostridium sticklandii: relationship to one-carbon metabolism.

A member of the vitamin B12 group has been identified as the red chromophore of reddish brown enzyme fractions obtained from Clostridium sticklandii. An orange compound which appears to be identical with the coenzyme form of pseudovitamin B12 (or adenine-B12 coenzyme) discovered by Barker et al. (Proe. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S., 44, 1093, 1958) is obtained if preparations are protected from visibl...

Clostridium propionicumis a strict anaerobic, Gram positive, rod-shaped bacterium that belongs to the clostridial cluster XIVb. The genome consists of one replicon (3.1 Mb) and harbors 2,936 predicted protein-encoding genes. The genome encodes all enzymes required for fermentation of the amino acids α-alanine, β-alanine, serine, threonine, and methionine.

Impacts of seed priming with salicylic acid and sodium hydrosulfide on possible metabolic pathway of two amino acids in maize plant under lead stress

Heavy metals pollution is one of the key environmental problems. In this research, the effect of seed priming with salicylic acid and sodium hydrosulfide was investigated on methionine and arginine amino acids contents and some compounds derived from their metabolism as well as ZmACS6 and ZmSAMD transcripts levels in maize plants under lead stress. For this purpose, maize seeds were soaked in s...

The Effect of Amino Acid, Carbohydrate, and Lipid Metabolism Disorders on Eyes

Inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) are a class of genetic disorders. Each metabolic disorder may have different forms with different age of onset, clinical manifestations, severity, and even type of inheritance. Ideally, a group of different specialists, including ophthalmologists, pediatricians, biochemists, and medical geneticists are needed for the final diagnosis and management of IMDs. B...
